The North Star Story...

Tomorrow

We are excited about what God is doing in Virginia!  But as we think about tomorrow we know we are called to sending out and multiplying.  We know the future of North Star Church will be following our calling of being an Acts 1:8 movement and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with the rest of the Iron Range and beyond.

We are firmly focused on our mission of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every tribe, tongue, and nation.

Yesterday

We are a non-denominational, Bible-believing church.  We were planted from North Star Church of Hibbing, Minnesota in late 2011.  In pursuit of obedience to Acts 1:8, North Star Church of Hibbing faithfully prayed for God to provide direction, opportunity, and resources for a church plant on the Iron Range.  And in very short order God provided!  Through faithful prayer and the obedience to God's calling North Star Church of Virginia launched at the Kaleva Hall in the heart of Virginia on February 19, 2012.  North Star Church of Virginia very quickly became a home church to a wide variety of people from a wide variety of backgrounds.  In its very short life, God has used North Star of Virginia to impact numerous lives - some in very dramatic ways and others in more subtle ways.  We've heard amazing testimonies and are so very thankful for having the privilege of being a part of God's work.

Today

We are led by Pastor Terry Sonnentag. Terry, his wife Barb, and children Adriana, and Joy were called to the ministry in mid-2011.  Terry graduated from Crown Bible College of Minneapolis with a Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Ministires, but after graduation found a career in the Information Technology (IT) field.  After spending several years in the IT field, Terry and Barb felt a clear calling into ministry and on January 1, 2012 Terry was ordained and officially launched North Star of Virginia.  Today, Terry is leading North Star Virginia and inspiring true spiritual growth among the church body.  The heart of Terry, Barb, and North Star Church of Virginia is to see people become life long true followers of Jesus Christ that live out the Great Commission.  Quick facts about Terry:

  • Terry was raised in a large family on a dairy farm in rural Wisconsin.

  • Terry's favorite author is A.W. Tozer.

  • Terry's favorite verse is Psalms 46:10, "Be still, and know that I am God."

  • Terry and his family have a small hobby farm in Britt.  They enjoy camping, biking, riding horses, and fishing.
